The Doing Business Report is an annual report released by World Bank that ranks economies on their ease of doing business. The ease of doing business is measured through the assessment of the regulatory environment of each economy and its conduciveness to business. Each economy is ranked 1-190; the closer to one the economy is ranked the easier it is to start and operate a business. Job Creation in Jordan - Emphasizing the Role of the Private Sector
16-09-2016The Jordan Strategy Forum issued a policy paper entitled: “Creating Job Opportunities in Jordan.” This study shows the importance of the role of the private sector in creating job opportunities in Jordan, especially small and medium enterprises. The structure of the workforce has also declined, including the dominance of the global sector and the lack of women’s participation. It also highlights the possibility of creating job opportunities by small and medium-sized companies. This study indicates the importance of educational, financial and social policies through close cooperation between the government and these establishments in order for small and medium enterprises to be able to play an appropriate and effective role.

16-07-2016The Jordan Strategy Forum issued a Policy paper entitled: " Relaxing the Rules of Origin for Jordanian Industries: A Necessary step Towards Expanding Jordanian Exports". The first part of the research includes an extensive review of the literature and reports available on Jordan-EU relations and provides historical background on trade between the Kingdom and European counterparts. Further, the research refers to trade agreements between Jordan and the EU, including the Euro-Mediterranean Association Agreement and the Pan Euro-Mediterranean Protocol. The final section explores the different challenges faced by Jordanian industries and exporters, as explained in literature.

The paper presents three different scenarios as alternative solutions to raising electricity prices. These solutions attempt to simulate three challenges facing Jordan: the losses of the National Electricity Company, the impact of the losses on public debt, and the rise in electricity prices on many investment sectors.

This Policy Paper aims to support new investment, increase employment, and innovation in Jordan’s economy by identifying challenges facing start-ups and small business in Jordan. This Policy Paper tries to identify some key questions and realistic solutions that will be used to initiate a policy dialogue with different stakeholders in order to start a simplification and modernization process within Jordan’s regulatory framework and public and private sector institutions, in order to support the development and growth of small businesses.
