The Path Towards Growth and Job Creation in Jordan

As part of the World Bank Executive Directors' visit to Jordan, Jordan Strategy Forum held a discussion session entitled "The Path towards Growth and Job Creation in Jordan". Many of JSF members participated in the session and discussed with the World Bank Executive Directors different projects implemented by the World Bank in Jordan, and potential future cooperation. The World Bank delegation heard the Jordanian private sector perspectives on the reforms needed to promote economic growth and reduce unemployment in Jordan.  JSF Chairman, Abdel Elah Al-Khatib expressed the importance of this event as a unique opportunity to discuss the possible ways to address the challenges facing Jordan. Al-Khatib stressed on the common shared values between the JSF and the World Bank on the role of the private sector in promoting sustainable economic growth. Additionally, Al-Khatib said that this event is part of JSF efforts in promoting evidence-based research to guide policymakers in Jordan.  Al-Khatib added that the path towards growth needs a fresh perspective and new ideas from leading minds across Jordan and the region, with private sector taking a key role in this. He also expressed that the discussion session is an opportunity to learn from other countries’ experiences.   The CEO of Jordan Strategy Forum, Dr. Ibrahim Saif, presented the Forum's efforts in supporting government’s plans to stimulate economic growth and job creation. Saif stressed the effective role played by Jordan Strategy Forum in enriching the general dialogue on the important economic issues represented in stimulating economic growth, boosting exports and partnership between the public and private sectors. Saif also stressed the need and importance of a regulatory reform in Jordan to ease the doing business in Jordan and to reach a stable business environment. Saif confirmed that this meeting is an opportunity for exchanging ideas on how to overcome the challenges facing the Jordanian economy. Mr. Adrián Fernández, World Bank Executive Director expressed that the visit comes to support Jordan in its reform efforts and follow up on the World Bank's initiatives in promoting economic growth and eliminating poverty in different countries. Fernández said that this event is a great opportunity to engage with the Jordanian private sector to discuss the main challenges that faces the Jordanian private sector and how to overcome them.
